I am big on researching the origins of quotes and idioms. The backstory on this one really amazed me.

The Last Lecture
“In 2006 Randy Pausch, a popular professor at Carnegie Mellon University, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He learned his condition was terminal just one month before delivering the speech that went on to become a best-selling book. Pausch died in 2008. The Last Lecture has been translated into 48 languages and sold over 5 million copies just in the US alone. We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand. Pausch is essentially telling his audience that there are things we have no control over, so to live our best lives, we need to approach these things with a positive attitude. In other words, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Pausch’s terminal illness was out of his control, but what he could control was how he approached the illness. He decided not to let it negatively consume him, but to live each day to its fullest, having the most fun he could. Pausch’s statement encourages people to follow their dreams and to create their own destinies.” 🤯 🥹💥
